Activity Nodes
This section provides definitions for all "Activity" type nodes.
Description
Generic node label for all actions intentionally carried out by one or more "Actor" ("Actor:Group" or "Actor:Person"). Technically, both here and in the CIDOC CRM, every "Activity" is an "Event", but the primary difference is that an "Activity" is intentional and always performed by one or more "Actor", while a non-"Activity" "Event" may lack intentionality and can include natural phenomena or social change without a responsible agent (e.g., a person’s natural death, an earthquake, sandstorm, etc.). An "Event" may have one or more "Actor" who participated in it, but an "Activity" will always be CARRIED_OUT_BY at least one "Actor". Activities may be relatively simple and instantaneous (e.g., taking a photograph) or a set of complex, coordinated actions occurring over an extended time period (e.g., an archaeological excavation season lasting six weeks). In their more complex form, activities may consist of multiple sub-activities, and these can occur in a multi-layered nested structure (e.g., an archaeological excavation season will consist of daily excavation process activities occurring in different parts of the site, and each of these will have its own sub-activities of soil removal, documentation, observation, materials sampling, artifact collection, etc.).
Activity Node Types
Nodes are NEVER recorded with ONLY the "Activity" label, but ALWAYS with one of the following label PAIRS:
| Label 1 | Label 2 | Label Pair |
|---|---|---|
| Activity | FieldSeason | :Activity:FieldSeason |
| Activity | FieldworkProcess | :Activity:FieldworkProcess |
| Activity | LabProcess | :Activity:LabProcess |
| Activity | Sampling | :Activity:Sampling |
The reason for this generic label is to facilitate queries across all "Activity" types. Additional pairs may be added as the data model incorporates additional "Activity" types.
